Getting a Companies House Verification Code



From 18th November 2025 new and existing directors, LLP members and People with Significant Control (PSCs) will need to verify their identity with Companies House. You can get an overview of these changes here

As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) The Company Wizard can assist you in verifying your identity and obtaining your 11 character personal verification code. The process will require you to upload your identity documents to our secure online portal. Depending on the documentation supplied we will typically be able to issue a verification code within 1-2 working days.

How do I start the verification process?


If you are an existing limited company then you will need to first enter your company number and select the individual directors or PSCs within our online application form.

Start a New Application for an existing Limited Company

In addition you will need to provide your current residential address and Date or Birth. Once your order has been placed we will contact you in regards to the additional documentation that will be needed.

Providing additional documentation


To verify your identity we will need to obtain two forms of identification. You must provide either:
  • 2 photographic identity documents from group A
  • 1 photographic identity document from group A, and 1 document from group B

If you do not live in the UK, you must provide at least one government issued document.

Group A - Photographic identity documents


Acceptable Group A documents include:
  • Passport or Irish passport card (may be up to 18 months expired)
  • Identity card with biometric information issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
  • UK biometric residence permit (BRP) (may be up to 18 months expired)
  • UK biometric residence card (BRC)
  • UK accredited PASS card
  • UK or EU driver digital tachograph card
  • Photocard driving licence (UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, EU full or provisional)
  • UK HM Forces ID card
  • UK HM Armed Forces Veteran Card
  • UK Frontier Worker permit
  • Government-issued photographic work permit
  • Photographic immigration document
  • Photographic visa
  • Firearms licence (UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man)

Any other photographic ID listed on PRADO (for example:
  • National Identity Card Pakistan
  • Crew Member Certificate South Africa
  • Permanent Resident Card USA)

Group B - Supporting documents


Acceptable Group B documents include:
  • Birth or adoption certificate
  • Marriage or civil partnership certificate
  • Non-photographic immigration document
  • Non-photographic visa
  • Non-photographic work permit
  • Bank or building society statement
  • UK local authority or social housing rental agreement (must show the persons current address)
  • Mortgage statement (must show the persons current address)
  • UK council tax statement (must show the persons current address)
  • Utility bill (must show the persons current address)
Note: You do not need to provide a document reference number, expiry date, or country of issue for Group B documents.
