Companies House Verification Overview

From 18th November 2025 new and existing directors, LLP members and People with Significant Control (PSCs) will need to verify their identity with Companies House. This is part of a wider requirement to improve the accuracy and transparency of the public register.

As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) The Company Wizard is able to verify individuals using approved identity verification methods. If you have an existing limited company or you want to incorporate a new company and you would like us to help you get verified then please read on.

Who needs to verify

The following individuals will need to verify their identity:
  • Individual directors of UK companies.
  • LLP Members
  • Individual People with Significant Control (PSCs) of UK companies.

When the verification must happen

For Directors:

  • If someone is appointed as a director on or after 18th November 2025, then they must verify their identity before the appointment is submitted to Companies House (or before acting in that role).
  • If someone is already a director on 18th November 2025 (i.e., an existing director), then they must verify their identity by the time their company files its next annual confirmation statement (CS01) after 18th November 2025. That's the deadline for that director.
  • If a person has multiple directorships, they should verify by the earliest applicable deadline among the companies.

For PSCs:

  • If someone becomes a PSC on or after 18th November 2025, they must verify their identity and provide their personal code within 14 days of being added to the register at Companies House.
  • If someone is already a PSC by 18th November 2025 and is also a director of the same company:
    • They verify by the next confirmation statement for the director role (as above)
    • And then, in their PSC capacity, they must submit their code via a separate service within 14 days of the confirmation statement date.
  • If someone is already a PSC by 18th November 2025 but is not a director of the same company:
    • They must verify their identity by the first 14-day window of their birth month. For example, if their date of birth is 22 March, the 14-day window starts on 1 March.

How can I verify my identity for Companies House?

There are two ways to verify your identity with Companies House:

What happens after I've verified my identity?

After your identity has been successfully verified, Companies House will issue you with an 11-character personal verification code.

You'll need to provide this code when:
  • incorporating a new limited company,
  • submitting your company' Confirmation Statement, or
  • updating or confirming your PSC (Person with Significant Control) details.
